VeggieTales - Lyle the Kindly VikingBy Big Idea Productions
Order This Video |
This is a thoroughly wholesome and well done video. It's all about sharing and your children will learn something valuable while being pleasantly entertained. If you're tired of the commercialism or of the hyperkinetic nature of many kids videos, then this is one you'll appreciate.
My children, ages 3 and 8 have watched this video many times over the past several months and keep coming back to it. It is a video with Christian messages in it, but it is not a "religious" video. Overall, it's cute and funny and will provide good examples for your young children.

Oh,my! Determined to present something "classy" for a change, Archibald Asparagus has taken over VeggieTales!
Assisted by those rascally French Peas, Archibald aims for new heights in "veggie programming" by attempting to produce "the world's first all-vegetable staging of Shakespeare's Hamlet," the first-ever "Classy Songs with Larry," and, for the grand finale, the world premier of what he believes to be Gilbert and Sullivan's "lost musical"- "Lyle, the Kindly Viking!"
Of course, working with the French Peas as assistants is a recipe for disaster and, in the chaos - and hilarity - that ensues, Bob, Larry and Junior all learn a great lesson about sharing. Archibald, on the other hand, mostly just learns to never again work with the French Peas.
Don't miss Junior Asparagus as "Lyle, the Kindly Viking" in this hilarious VeggieTales musical adventure! Your whole family will sing - and laugh - along as they learn that "sharing gets us more of what we really want - friends!"
Back to the TopWell, it had to happen--Archibald Asparagus is hosting his own VeggieTales show. The 15th video from this groundbreaking Christian-lite company gives us plenty of what makes the series so much fun: leader Bob the Tomato, daffy Larry the Cucumber, catchy songs, and scattershot humor. Tired of the wacky ways of the normal VeggieTales shows, Archibald wants to inject an element of class. First up: an all-vegetable staging of Hamlet. Unfortunately, the only script that can be found is a slightly different version called "Omelet." The Bard's famous lines take a beating with the usual Monty Python-esque humor of the Veggie crew. Next, after an Archibald-influenced "Silly Songs with Larry" segment, the featured event of the evening proves to be the lost Gilbert & Sullivan musical Lyle the Kindly Viking. This brawny band of Vikings love their job (and have an affinity for big-screen TVs) but cannot understand why the meek Lyle (Junior Asparagus, natch) wants to share his meager belongings with their victims. Certainly, the sharing ways of Lyle will win the day. After such experiments as the Larry-Boy shows, which dropped the series' familiar opening and even Bob himself, this familiarly structured VeggieTales video is a joy to watch and illustrates how far the creators have come while sticking to their roots. For ages 4 and up. --Doug Thomas
