Our child started playing with it at 15 months and loves to laugh at the cute characters and enjoys pressing the keys to see things happen. It reinforces many learning concepts with its 8 different activities. It also has many activites that parents can do together with their child offline. JumpStart Baby is a fun and educational product for your young child. |

JumpStart Baby does have a variety of specific learning objectives. It introduces the concepts of colors, shapes, names of animals, music, body parts and names for clothing. Also, it helps toddlers/babies learn about 'cause and effect' - press a key and something happens. The parent's guide that comes with the CD also describes how babies/toddlers can learn to use the computer appropriately and it describes by age, what parents should expect their baby/toddler to do. A very nice feature is a "tip box" - a little light bulb that appears with related learning tips and activities for parents to do with their child - on and off the computer. There are 18 pages of learning activities to print as well. All of these together result in a nicely integrated learning product. Some parents wonder the ages 9 to 24 months are too young to start a child on a computer. You'll need to decide that based upon the developmental needs of your child. However, this title is an ideal CD for a baby/toddler who sees parents and siblings using a computer and can't wait to try it out for themselves. |

My toddler loves to play with Jumpstart Baby. He's 17 months old and has been playing with it for two months. He laughs at the cute animations and loves to press keys on the keyboard and make things happen. He's been watching his older brother use the computer and has desperately wanted to imitate him. With this product, he has his own chance to use the computer and have fun. |

We found that this title is more suited for toddlers than for babies. The learning concepts (such as shapes) are easier to do with blocks with a baby than on the computer. However, for an older child, the songs, animations and the ability to make something happen when the keys are hit, are a lot of fun. We've been using it for several months and our son still loves to use it. The user's guide does a good job in setting expectations for how long a child will want to play with it at a time and how this time will increase as the child grows older. We expect that our son will enjoy this title for 9 months to a year. |

The graphics are very appropriate for a young child - simple, brightly colored with nice animations and nice music. We did not find any 'bugs' during our usage. However, it is not a 'bullet proof' baby product, in that if a baby/toddler 'smashes' away at the keyboard, they can certainly do unexpected things, such as access the desktop. It is not a product that you should let your child play with unattended. |
