ZULA Limited, a new medical products company in Columbus, Ohio, is marketing fabric cast covers nationwide. Zula, which is owned by Dr. Deborah Manchester and Dr. Sheila Davis, is manufacturing and selling cast covers for adults, children and infants. Zula CastCovers are designed to fit most arm and leg casts, splints and immobilizing devices. The cast covers are an invention of Dr. Manchester's and developed out of a personal need. "I had Achilles' Tendon surgery and my leg was in a cast for several months. I felt vulnerable with my toes exposed, the cast got really dirty and it scratched up all of my business clothing. I could never find a sock or covering that would fit over the cast and look professional." And Zula CastCovers were created.

The cast covers come in a myriad of color choices and stripes. Zula makes them in all university and school stripes (scarlet and gray is a big favorite) and in popular national team colors. The infant and children's cast covers, in colors such as neon green, lavendar and blue, are printed with original characters and have a space theme as their focus. The Kid's Fun Pack inside the cast cover package includes a poster of "Planet Zula", with Bula, a resident of Zula, his pet Gorga, Bula's space ship and other creatures of Planet Zula pictured. Turn the poster over and you find a story called My CastCover Journal for the reader/cast cover wearer to complete. The story starts with a drawing of Bula greeting you with a cast and cover on his leg. He says "Hi, I'm Bula. I'm from the Planet Zula. Who are you?" Your choices to circle are: "Boy, Girl, or Alien." The Journal continues with questions which the child with the broken limb can complete it him/herself. Zula Ltd. is negotiating manufacture of soft creature toys of Bula, Gorga, the planet Zula, and a space ship, designed to be used as a lunch container, to house them all. An author of children's books is writing the first of a series of stories about Bula and his friends. All creatures are copywritten and all materials are patented by Zula Ltd.

Zula CastCovers have been well received in Columbus and are now also being sold in 5 other states. Customers include HomeCare America, a franchise operation headquartered in New York, which will be selling our cast covers in all 28 of their hospital-owned medical supply stores, The Ohio State University Medical Center Giftshop, the largest hospital giftshop in the country, the OSUMC Orthopedic floor, Dodd Hall at the OSUMC, Columbus Prescription, some NovaCare offices, prosthetics offices and many Columbus orthopedic surgeons offices. They will be available in ski and sports shops this fall.
