NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 1998 -- He's cute. He's cuddly. He's the latest fund raising phenomenon in the battle against leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. He's "Little Sport," the unBEARably adorable creation of Cathy Larson, member of the Leukemia Society of America's Board of Trustees and senior vice president, marketing, Mattel Toys. Ms. Larson and a team of Mattel employees designed the limited-edition stuffed toy for the express purpose of using it as a fund raising tool to help the Society further its mission -- to find a cure for leukemia and blood-related cancers, and to help improve the quality of life of patients and their families. "Thanks to a generous donation by Mattel, 2,000 athletically-attired 'Little Sport' bears have zipped off the production lines and into the hearts of young leukemia patients," says Ms. Larson. "More bears will be distributed to the 57 Leukemia Society of America chapters nationwide to be sold at fund raising events," she adds. Bear lovers may call 1-800-955-4LSA for more information on how to order "Little Sport" from local Society chapters. During the holiday season, the general public can purchase the bears exclusively at K*B Toy Stores. For each bear sold, K*B will make a donation of $5 to the Leukemia Society of America. Only 20,000 of the limited-edition "Little Sport" will be available in K*B Toy Stores, so shop early for the little champion, who dons the perfect number "10." "Little Sport" is clad in running shorts, a baseball cap and Reebok(R) footwear. Reebok, the athletic wear company, donated the usage of its logo to give "Little Sport" that professional sports aura.
