Just in time for the 1999 back-to-school season, the maker of RID Lice Killing Shampoo is launching a new product to help in the fight against lice infestations -- RID Lice Egg Loosener Gel.

RID Lice Egg Loosener Gel helps dissolve the glue that binds the lice eggs (nits) to the hair shaft. This new product helps make nit combing faster and easier, and leaves the hair more manageable and with a pleasant scent.

Between 8 and 12 million children get head lice (pediculosis) each school year.

"Removing lice eggs from the hair is one of the most time-consuming and frustrating aspects of treatment. We believe that improper or inadequate combing is a major factor in treatment failure and re-infestations -- if parents don't get all the eggs from the hair, there is an increased risk of re-infestation," according to Steven Neibart, MD, CHC medical director.

"In clinical testing, RID Lice Egg Loosener Gel, when used after Maximum Strength RID Lice Killing Shampoo, reduced nit-combing time by approximately 25%," added Dr. Neibart. "Any increase in the effectiveness of the nit removal process should help lower the risk of self re-infestation."

The new product is available nationally in a 2-oz size and as part of the new RID Advanced Removal System which includes a 2-oz bottle of RID Lice Killing Shampoo, a 2-oz tube of the RID Lice Egg Loosener Gel and the patented RID Lice Egg Removal comb.
