In each package there will be 3 test sticks. Once activated each stick lasts for 2 minutes. You wipe the end of the stick across the object you are testing. If the object contains lead, the stick will immediately turn red. If it doesn't turn red, you can continue to test objects until either the stick turns red or 2 minutes pass. BELLINGHAM, WA, April 1999. Lead poisoning is one of the leading health threats to children today. The answer to this problem is prevention, and LeadCheck® is the first step. LeadCheck® is an easy at-home test that provides reliable detection of lead on any surface, alerting parents to lead poisoning hazards in the home. LeadCheck® can be used on any surface to instantly detect lead. The LeadCheck® test is ideal for use on the most common sources of lead including paint, dinnerware, glassware, mini-blinds, ceramics, toys, porcelain tubs, furniture and dust. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 1.7 million children have blood levels at or above the "level of concern". High levels of lead in the blood of young children can produce permanent nervous system damage. Recent research indicates that even relatively low blood lead levels can produce significant nervous system damage, such as reduction in intelligence and attention span, reading and learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. The ingestion of lead-contaminated surface dust is the most common pathway of childhood lead poisoning. Lead dust gets on children's hands and then into their bodies through normal hand-to-mouth activity. LeadCheck® is an easy to use test swab containing two glass vials filled with non-hazardous chemicals that are lead-reactive. When crushed in the designated spots, the swab emits a yellow, non-staining liquid that is rubbed onto the testing surface. If the test turns red, there is lead on the surface. LeadCheck® is an accurate, reliable, and inexpensive way to take the first step in preventing lead poisoning in America's children.
