The CyberAngels
CyberAngels is non profit organization dedicated to everything you ever
wanted to know about your cyber-neighborhood
watch and about protecting your children in cyberspace

This is the second time we've reviewed this site, and it keeps getting better. CyberAngels is an excellent site for helping parents learn more about the
Internet and how to protect their kids when the kids surf online. A
wonderful resource that this organization has produced is the
"Parents Guide to the Internet". This book was released on
1/12/00, but many chapters can be found on their website. (visit:
http://www.cyberangels.org/parentsguide/contents.html) The chapters
cover everything from 'what is the Internet' to 'choices as parents' to
'when should your child start using a computer'. It's a book that
covers a wide range of technology-related subjects that impact
our children. You'll also find a chapter on special needs children
and on families keeping in touch via e-mail.
Elsewhere on the site you'll find articles, links and information
about online safety.
Overall, this is a very informative site to visit if your
school age children are starting to use the Internet. Review
the rules you find here with your children. And if have questions
about using the Internet for your own use, you may find the
answers here as well!

GetNetWise
GetNetWise is a public service brought to families by Internet industry corporations and public interest organizations to help ensure that families have safe, constructive, and educational or entertaining online experiences. The GetNetWise coalition wants Internet users to be just "one click away" from the resources they need to make informed decisions about their family's use of the Internet.

|
This is another excellent site for families to learn more about the Internet
and how to protect their children from the dangers when they are online.
It differs from other Internet safety sites in that it has a very large
and complete searchable database about Internet safety products and services. Parents can search for products that will filter out a specific type of
objectionable material or they can search by technology. You can look up
specific products or services and see their characteristics and specifications. I
especially liked their online safety guide broken out by a child's age.
In summary, this is another excellent site on Internet safety and it offers
very different information from other sites we've reviewed in this category.
