HOUSTON, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- To one child, cancer is the big bad wolf. To another, it's needles poking him all the time. One more sees it as being bald forever. Texas Children's Cancer Center displays the works of young artists from around the world touched by cancer during its eighth annual "Making A Mark: An Exhibit of Art by Children Touched by Cancer."

The exhibit features more than 200 art, writing, sculpture, crafts and photography samples with patients sending in artwork from as far away as Oman, Jordan. The artwork can be viewed on the Texas Children's Hospital web page at www.txchildrens.org.

"This exhibit provides an opportunity to gain a unique insight to the experiences faced by childhood cancer patients and survivors," said David G. Poplack, director of the Texas Children's Cancer Center. "The artwork is a window into the spirit and strength of these children."

"Children are often unwilling to discuss their feelings about cancer, however studies have shown that they are able to express themselves through art," said Carol Fawcett, director of the Arts In Medicine (AIM) program at Texas Children's Cancer Center. "Art enhances the quality of life for children who are undergoing cancer treatment while laying the foundation for life-long learning. To this end, the Arts in Medicine (AIM) Program was developed."
