This booklet was developed as part of the AMERICA READS CHALLENGE: READ*WRITE*NOW!
initiative to help children read well and independently by the end of the third grade. Additional
activities are provided to help improve children's reading and writing skills through sixth grade.
The principal authors of this publication are Dr. Edward J. Kameenui and Dr. Deborah C. Simmons of the University of Oregon.
