PAWTUCKET, R.I., Jan. 27, 1997-- Playskool, a Hasbro, Inc. brand and a leader in infant and preschool toys and products including Mr. Potato Head®, Lincoln Logs®, Tinkertoy®, and Weebles®, will launch an exclusive new line of juvenile products and toys with Microban antibacterial protection at Toy Fair this February. Playskool's line of toys and products with Microban will help protect the toys children play with from the growth of germs and bacteria, providing a better environment in which children can play and learn.
"The incorporation of Microban antibacterial protection into our Playskool toys and products is one of the most exciting developments the preschool category has seen in years," said Anna Dooley, Playskool's vice president of marketing. "Our research with parents, and the successful test marketing and national rollout of our 1-2-3 High Chair with Microban make us confident that consumers will be eager to purchase Playskool products with Microban antibacterial protection."
Initially, Playskool's line of toys and products with Microban will feature a range of newborn, infant and toddler products, including the award- winning Roll n Rattle Ball and Busy Band Walker. Playskool plans to expand its selection of toys and products with Microban protection in 1998.
"Today's consumers have a much greater awareness about germs and how to protect oneself against germs," said Dr. Philip Tierno, microbiologist at New York University Medical Center and director of Clinical Microbiology at Tisch Hospital. "Microban is safe and effective. Microban has been extensively tested, and has been proven to inhibit many common household germs on plastic toys. I believe this antibacterial feature in plastic toys is a wonderful innovation which parents will welcome into their homes."
Microban antibacterial protection inhibits the growth of a broad range of bacteria, mold, mildew and fungus. Developed by the Microban Products Company, it is embedded in the plastic or synthetic fibers; it is colorless, odorless and, unlike surface coatings, it does not wash off. Microban works by neutralizing the ability of germs to function, grow or reproduce. Independent laboratory tests have proven that Microban inhibits the growth of bacteria such as E. coli., Salmonella, Staph., and Strep.
Introduced in 1988, Microban protection is already established as an antibacterial component in products used by hospitals, laboratories, food processors, and in other commercial applications.
Founded in 1928, Playskool is a brand of Hasbro, Inc., a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of toys, games, interactive software, puzzles, infant care and juvenile products.
