The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns that children can get trapped and strangle on some "mini-hammocks." If the hammocks are rigged too high off the ground, a child will have difficulty climbing into the hammock and may become trapped or entangled. This can lead to strangulation. To help prevent injuries to children, install a mini-hammock near the ground. "Mini-hammocks" are small and lightweight. They have no spreader bars and can be folded easily. These hammocks are popular in camping and backpacking. They are priced at about $10 each and have no identifying marks once they have been removed from the original packaging. The Commission is aware of two deaths and one non-fatal incident involving "mini-hammocks" or backpacker hammocks. Children were getting trapped in hammocks that were rigged too high off the ground.
