This is another great book in the "What Your Child Needs to Know" series. It builds upon its predecessor (the Kindergarten book) with more activities, projects, stories and more that are for an older child. I especially like the sections entitled "What Parents Can Do to Help" that you'll find throughout the book. Each book in this series covers the topics of: language and literature, history and geography, visual arts, music, mathematics and science. And each section has references (books and software) if you wish to expand upon the topic. So use this book at story time, as a resource for activities, or as part of a homeschooling program. It's a great resource.
A revised edition of the best-selling educational guide builds on the Core Knowledge curriculum that emphasizes a fundamental grasp of essential subjects and records the successes of hundreds of schools that have implemented this curriculum.
Attractively redesigned, with a completely revised and updated curriculum, this best selling title in the Core Knowledge series emphasizes fundamental knowledge in math, science, art, history, language arts, geography and technology. Line drawings throughout. 32 pages of color illustrations.
Since the Core Knowledge series was introduced, hundreds of thousands of children have benefited from these books' effective and user-friendly knowledge based curriculum. Researchers at the Core Knowledge Foundation constantly refine and update the curriculum based on feedback they receive from parents and teachers across the country. This new, revised edition of What Your First Grader Needs to Know reflects the fruit of that research and features a complete redesign with 32 pages of color
"Thank you for writing such wonderful books! My children and I have thoroughly enjoyed them. Your books have been a great source and a guide to us. I have a degree in elementary education and I think this is the best curriculum I have encountered." -Barbara de la Aguilera, Parent, Miami, Florida
"For three years, we have been using elements of the Core Knowledge program, and I have watched as it invigorated our students. These books should be in every classroom in America." -Richard E. Smith, Principal, Northside Elementary School, Palestine, Texas
