From the Back Cover

"Rasing Readers is a delightful and understandable book... Steve Bialostok provides parents with specific information about the years before and after children start school and become immersed in learning to read. How people learn to read is usually not explained in a way that is easily understood. Raising Readers solves this problem by telling parents what to look for in their children's reading and how to continue to support the dynamic reading that they see developing."
-Yetta M. Goodman, Regents Professor, University of Arizona

"This book is delightful and informative. The question and answer chapter is one of the best pieces of solid information for parents that I've read. They will love it! And so will teachers who finally have the perfect book to help parents understand the literacy process."
-Dorothy I Watson, Professor of Education, University of Missouri

"Steve Bialostok says more than just 'read aloud to your child.' He has written a thoroughly readable and honest book that lets parents in on the reading process. There is no better way to empower parents than to provide the understanding necessary to judge what is really happening in their child's classroom. Every parent should read this book."
-L. Steven Winlock, Director of Elementary Education, Elk Grove Unified School District (California), Consultant on Parent-School Relations

About the Author

Steven Bialostok is an elementary teacher and reading specialist who has worked in public and private schools since 1975. He is currently a reading/language arts specialist for a large Sacramento-area school district and presents workshops on emerging literacy to parents and teachers throughout the U.S. and Canada. Steve conceived and wrote this book with the encouragement of his students' parents--a monthly question-and-answer newsletter to them was so enthusiastically received, it was clear that the information needed to be shared with parents everywhere.
