The Nursing Mother's Companionby Kathleen Huggins
Order This Book |
Huggins explains new developments in indentifying infants at risk for underfeeding, tells how to make sure an infant is getting enought milk, and covers such common concerns as preventing sore nipples, dealing with night waking, and managing nursing while working. A rating of breast pumps and an appendix on drugs and their safety during breastfeeding are included.
I've been referring to this book for the past 2 months as I've been nursing my newborn son and it's been a valuable and practical resource. While my other books on infant care have provided the basics on breastfeeding, I found that I needed more than that. I needed help with unique breastfeeding problems that my son has had, ideas for my diet and some support during those inevitable growth spurts (I found myself reading this book during my 2am feedings!). If you or a friend are going to be breastfeeding soon, or if you have questions or concerns about breastfeeding, then definitely look at this book.
First Edition rated as a "best possible choice" among breastfeeding guides in the Journal of Human Lactation.
