This is a very good book to begin introducing the topic of 'stranger safety' to your young children. It's appropriately silly at times and will not scare a young child. But every set of pages has a clear message for what children should and shouldn't do. The book doesn't cover all of the safety topics that you'll want to talk with your children about, but it certainly will help you teach your child about 'not talking to strangers' in a clear, but friendly manner. My 7-year loved the rhymes on each page and the first evening we read it together, we read it four times in a row. Each time he kept laughing at the various rhymes. The book is pleasantly illustrated.
Never Talk to Strangersis a cautionary classic - newly illustrated - that sends an important message in a lighthearted tone.
If you are hanging from a trapeze
And up sneaks a camel with bony knees,
Remember this rule, if you please
Never talk to strangers.
First published in 1967 and newly illustrated by the award-winning S.D. Schindler, Never Talk to Strangers relays a timely, important message in a lighthearted manner. The bouncy rhyme and fantastic artwork will delight young children and invite many repeat readings.
Irma Joyce wrote a number of books for Golden Books, but Never Talks to Strangers was indeed her most popular. It became an instant bestseller after the news program 20/20 featured the book in one of its broadcasts. Joyce's message remains timely, and her lively text can now be enjoyed by modern audiences in this newly illustrated edition.
S.D. Schindler has illustrated more than fifty books for children, including Don't Fidget a Feather, winner of the California Young Reader's Medal, and Big Pumpkin, a Reading Rainbow book. He lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
