Description

Ear infections are the #1 reason parents bring their children to a doctor. This new revision of an essential family health reference analyzes in simple language the numerous recent scientific studies showing that the standard medical treatments for childhood ear infections are ineffective and perhaps even dangerous, and offers recommendations on alternative care.

KidSource OnLine Book Review

I came across this book from a link in Amazon when I was researching ear infections around the time we had signed our son up for ear tube surgery. My son had had chronic ear and sinus infections the previous 9 months and had suffered scarring of the ear drum and hearing loss. While the ear tubes have been successful in preventing ear infection recurrence (6 months later), I credit this book with helping me to understand and improve my son's own immunize system through healthier foods and nutritional suppliments. If your son or daughter suffers from ear infections, you will find this book this book to be a treasure of information. It covers classical antibiotic medical treatment, allergy testing, accupressure, chiropratic treatments and chinese medicine as well as an in-depth discussion of the biological process of developing ear infections and the immune system responses. Whatever approach you decide to take with your child after reading this book, you will at least be well-informed of the alternatives.

From the Back Cover

Ear infections are still the leading reason parents take their child to a doctor. To combat infections, parents and doctors employ arsenals of antihistimines and antibiotics, and too quickly resort to ear tubes and surgery. In this updated and revised second edition of his bestselling Childhood Ear Infections, Dr. Michael Schmidt describes the current controversy in medical journals questioning existing treatments for chronic earaches. The causes of otitis media, Dr. Schmidt argues, are a series of events which flourish when poor nutrition occurs: the immune system is lowered, excess mucus is produced, and vitamin and mineral absorption is inadequate. Careful attention to diet and nutrition to prevent food allergies, and the use of acupressure, homeopathic medicine, and herbal medicine are effective in healing earaches and preventing their recurrence. Healing Childhood Ear Infections offers the most compelling critique to date of existing treatments and the effectiveness of alternative therapies.
