KidSource OnLine Book Review

Once in a while I comes across a novel that's so unbelievably delightful and enjoyable that I can't help but wish the characters were as real as I imagined them to be and the plot was constructed not by the mere laws of fiction but by the gravity of human nature. Most of the time I go away disappointed, but not in this case. The Education of Little Tree is a rare combination of fiction and wisdom, heart and comedy, and it is a poignant mixture. Its story of a Cherokee boy's education will teach every single one of its readers, young or old. At the same time, what I consider to be the story's greatest accomplishment is it how it transcends the particular time, place, culture, and even the pages it's written on to permeate the reader's every sense and emotion. Its perspective is romantic; but nontheless, it is a beautiful book and an unforgettable reading experience. Share it with your child.

Selections From the Back Cover

"A tender reminiscence of the author's boyhood makes a case for the natural approach to life... A memorable reading experiences... Poignant, happy, warm, and filled with love and respect for the Indian way of life." -Booklist

"Some of it is sad, some of it is hilarious, some of it is unblievable, and all of it is charming." -The Atlantic

"I cannot recall a book that has moved me from laughter to tears and back again, with the frequency that this one has.... If I could have but one book this year this would be my choice, for it is a deeply felt work which satisfies and fills." -Chattanooga Times

"There's humor, tragedy, tenderness and, most of all, love.... A lot of people received a lot of education from their grandparents that schools don't offer. But few have expressed it as well as Little Tree has. Very good reading." -Abilene Reporter
